
Description: Geographic Information systems provide the ideal tool for students to explore natural resource management issues.

• Water(River & Wetland Protection, Water Conservation, Managing Water Supply and Sewerage, Improving Water Quality),
• Soils (Soil Management,Soil Health, Soil Erosion, Acid Sulfate Soils, Salinity),
• Sustainable Land Use (Recognition & Respect- Aboriginal Values, Land capability, Planning),
• Coast & Marine (Coasts & Estuary Management, Biodiversity, Research)
Target Audience: Stage 4-6 Science and Geography students
Host organisation(s): Bournda EEC and Department of Environment and Conservation
Cost: In school programs are available for $1.00 per student per day
Dates available: ring Bournda to arrange visit
Supervision(staff/student ratio): 1 class, maximum of 30 students
Equipment: Data projector, laptops with GIS software installed

The materials provided show how students can be led through the various software functions while pursuing a scientific investigation or geographical enquiry.
