In 2006 Far South Coast Landcare was successful in obtaining a Southern Rivers Community Partnership Fund grant to support the environmental education project, "Our Place, Southern Rivers".
Our Place, Southern Rivers seeks to:
• develop in young people a greater understanding and connection with their place encouraging the development of life-long ownership and stewardship attitudes towards natural resources.
• foster increased dialogue between young people and adults within their community, encouraging greater ownership and momentum for community initiatives.
• involve young people in Landcare and SRCMA projects.
• assist schools and communities to explore catchment issues relevant to the Southern Rivers Catchment Management Area
The project will help schools and communities to engage with the SRCMA in natural resource management projects that complement the Catchment Action Plan, focusing on the Bega Valley and Bombala district.
The "Our Place, Southern Rivers" builds on the approach used in the Maitland 'Sense of Place" project. The concept of developing a "growing" resource kit will be achieved through the development of this website. As new materials are developed they will be added to the site so that the resource is continually updated. For more information on "Sense of Place" click here!
